Pongal is a harvest festival celebrated in southern India but this day is celebrated in various parts of India as well. It is celebrated as Lohri, Uttarayana,Magh Bihu and Makar Sankranthi among others, it signifies the end of the traditional farming season. Pongal means “boiling over”and to symbolize a good harvest, rice is cooked in a new pot until it boils over. Pongal is also the name of the sweet dish made on this day by boiling together rice , milk, lentils, jaggery, and cardamom. It also has an astronomical significance as it heralds the Sun’s movement northward for a six month period.
My cards take their inspiration from this festival and here is wishing you all a very Happy Pongal.
